WATSON, (Hulda) Joanne - age 82, of Flint Twp., passed away February 16, 2020 peacefully in her sleep. Memorial service 7 PM Friday, February 21, at Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center 6063 Fenton Road, Flint. Mr. Michael MacDonald officiating. Visitation will be held 6PM until the time of service Friday. Those desiring may make Memorial donations to The Humane Society or The Eastern Food Bank of Michigan. Joanne was born, August 11, 1937 in Brownsville, TN, the daughter of Alsey and Ruby (Simmons) Helton. She married Carl B. Watson in Houston TX on November 6, 1970. Joanne was a homemaker who also held various jobs outside the home. She is known for her fried chicken and her fruit cobblers. You could also find her sewing something for someone, making dish towels, curtains, and hemming. And boy oh boy, she loved camping. Joanne would take her walker and unload wood from the back of the truck to then dump it by the firepit "her job" as she called it. She also loved assisting her daughter Amy, as a teacher, in her classroom, helping decorating, cleaning, counting box tops, etc. She loved her dogs and talking on the phone and spending time with friends and family! Surviving are: children, Robert Luten, Amy (friend Tom) Guise, Emily (Marvin) Calhoun, and Geno (Laura) Luten; 11 grandchildren; 5 "Bonus" grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; siblings, C.H. (Shelby) Helton, Bill (Martha) Helton, Patsy (Dean) Oliver, Jamie Helton, Tommy Helton; numerous nieces and nephews. Joanne was preceded in death by: parents; husband, Carl B. Watson; son, William Michael Prater; siblings, Bob Helton, Ruby Bowman, Francis Lyles, Shirley Daughtry, and Jack Helton. Tributes may be shared on the obituaries page of www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
