Joe was born on December 15, 1934 to Martin and Anna Winiarski. He graduated from Pinconning High School in 1952. At Central Michigan University, Joe played football for a short time and lettered on CMU’s gymnastics team. After spending 2 ½ years at CMU, Joe joined the Navy in July 1957, where he served on the USS Diamondhead. He returned to CMU in 1960, after being honorably discharged from the Navy. A fraternity brother, Dan Cameron, set Joe up on a blind date with Anne (Dan’s sister). Joe and Anne were married on September 2, 1960, at First Presbyterian Church in Saginaw. Joe graduated from CMU in 1962 and began teaching Industrial Arts at Shields Junior High that September, where he also coached football, basketball, and baseball. To better support his family, he took a job at Saginaw Steering Gear in 1964, working in Industrial Engineering. He retired, in 1995, after nearly 31 years at “Generous” Motors. In retirement, he used his leadership skills as the president of two homeowners associations and ran several golf leagues. A passionate golfer, he helped teach the game to his grandsons. Personally, he shot his age in golf two times and had one hole-in-one. Joe and Anne loved to gather family at their homes in Michigan and Jensen Beach, Florida. Their children and grandchildren will forever cherish the memories of time with Grandma and Grandpa. Always very supportive, he and Anne loved to watch their grandkids participate in their favorite activities: ballet, baseball, motocross, football, softball, hockey, and soccer. He will be remembered as a man, wise and caring, who touched the lives of many.

Joe is survived by his son, Greg and his wife Anne (Collins) of Flushing and their children, Nina and Nick; daughter, Mary (Misty) Kapfhamer and husband Scott of Clinton Township and their children, Cameron and Branson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Winiarski.
