June was born on October 30, 1922 in Buckley, Michigan to Timothy and Norma (Ullmer) Kildee. When she was just a baby, the family moved to Flint, where her dad had heard that the Buick plant was paying $5 a week! Soon the family grew to five with Vickie, Ken, Dale and Jack. In 1946 June met Dick Crockett at a fraternity dance. After a brief courtship, they married on September 6, 1947. Theirs was a lifelong love. They raised nine children in a house that they had built on West McClellan street right across from St. Luke Catholic Church and School. Mom was a very active member of St. Luke Parish. She was a member of the Altar Society, served on the School Board, helped with Friday Fish Fries, hosted Discussion Club meetings at her home and assisted the Sisters of St. Luke in many ways. Mom and Dad even worked the church Bingo games. Our home on McClellan Street was the gathering spot for all of our friends. Our front porch was never empty! Mom and Dad liked knowing our friends and made everyone feel welcome. As we left home one by one for college or work, our friends continued to stop by and visit mom. She was that kind of a person! Mom and Dad shared values of family, church and education. They lived lives of faith. Dad was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1952 just after the fourth child was born. They went on to have five more children knowing that God would provide. And He did! Dad retired from GMI in 1974 and later sold their big house and moved to Rosehaven Manor. After one week, Mom was offered the position of Activities Director! She turned the job down but was a very active part of the Rosehaven community. She made so many friends, and her warm smile and loving nature lit up the place. It was there that she took up oil painting and became a very talented and prolific artist. Dad passed away in 1999 and Mom was left with a hole in her heart. Surrounded by her large family, Mom stayed busy traveling on cruises, vacationing in various cottages throughout Michigan, visiting Chicago, Colorado, California, New Orleans, Texas, and Las Vegas to name a few. Mom loved seeing new places, meeting new people and experiencing life to the fullest. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a family gathering always meant laughter and good times. Mom was the shining jewel of our family. She taught each of us the meaning of unconditional love.
She is survived by her children Diane (Nick) Suciu, Nancy Kennedy, Linda (Mike) Brown, Marcia (Dan) McKeever, Dave (Judy) Crockett, Pat (Kelly) Crockett, Mike (Jan) Crockett and John (Margaret) Crockett as well as 23 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by her brother, Dale and wife Gayle Kildee and her sisters-in-law, Margaret Kildee, Mary Crockett and Berneda Weddington. She will be dearly missed by her best friend, Fern Glenn, and many others at Rosehaven.
Waiting for June in heaven are her loving husband Dick, her son Tim, her parents, Tim and Norma Kildee, her sister, Vickie and husband, Howard McColley, and her brothers, Ken and Jack. What a celebration that will be!
A special thanks to Ellen Hopper of Heart to Heart Hospice. She has been our angel, helping Mom and the family through this time. We also thank her caregivers, Debbie, Antanika, Christina, Debi, IRandy and Roxanne who showed mom nothing but love and compassion.
