Victor “Vic” Joseph Teichman, age 94 of Durand, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014 at his home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 3, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 700 E. Columbia Dr. Durand, MI 48429. Fr. Jeffrey A. Poll will be officiating with burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Vernon. Visitation will be held at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and again on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with the rosary being prayed at 7:00 p.m.
Mr. Teichman was born April 30, 1919 in Vernon Twp. to the late Henry Joseph and Caroline (Nickels) Teichman. On November 13, 1948, he married Mary K. Zimmerman in Corunna. In the 40's, Vic worked for Norm Cain Sales in Perry and then went on to become the owner of Teichman Motor Sales in Durand in the late 40’s and early 50’s, from there he would work at the Mitchell Corporation in Owosso, he was a postal worker in Durand and later sold tractors. He was a farmer all of his life. In his spare time, Vic enjoyed recreational flying, fishing, boating, waterskiing, snowmobiling and motorcycling. He was always happy to give you a ride. He engineered and built many metal/wood items for recreational and work purposes. Mr. Teichman was the Past President of the NFO in the 60’s and 70’s, the Past President of the Shiawassee Township District School #1 Board and a member of the Dewitt Landing Association at Higgins Lake. He had a smile that was recognized by family and friends.
Mr. Teichman is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary K.; 5 children: Vicki (Charles) Grumley of Traverse City, David Teichman and partner Robert Fields of Lakewood, CA, Linda (Bill) Burns, Sr. of Vernon, Patti (Matt) Hoddy of Bancroft, and Lee (Kim) Teichman of Bancroft; 8 grandchildren: Steven (Beth) Grumley, Andrew (Christine) Teichman, Kaitlin Teichman, Mark Burns, Julieann Burns, Kristin Hoddy, Danielle Hoddy, and Jordan Teichman; 3 great grandchildren: Alicia, Michael, and Matthew Grumley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Caroline; Brother, Robert Teichman and 2 daughters: Mary in 1946, and Kay in 1951.
