GREEN, Leon James “Jim” – Of Clio, age 81, died Monday, February 27, 2012 at Hurley Medical Center. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church, 746 South Saginaw Street, Flint, Pastor Paul Ytterock officiating. Burial in Thetford Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America or First Presbyterian Church.
Visitation 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. Mrs. Green will be at the church from 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of the service Leon was born in Millington, Michigan on October 25, 1930 to Reuben and Flora (Kester) Green. He lived in the Grand Blanc area for over 40 years retiring to the family farm in Clio, Michigan. On September 11, 1954, he married Doris Kittle at First Presbyterian Church. Jim graduated from Clio High School, class of 1949 and attended Flint Junior College. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church for 57 years. He was involved in Scouts as a teenager and achieved the rank of Star Scout. Jim was very involved with Boy Scouts of America as a Cub Scout Leader and Troop Leader 335 up to Scout and Merit Badge Counselor for 25 years. He led an expedition to Filmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. Jim enjoyed leatherwork, woodworking, camping, coffee with his work buddies and spending time with his family. He was an avid gardener. Jim retired from AC Delco in 1999 after 48 years of service. Surviving are wife, Doris; six children, Paul (Sandy) of Tennessee, Elaine Granger of Georgia, Diane Crawley of Georgia, April Green, Meagan Green and Tamara Green, all of Michigan; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; brother, Glen (Kathy) of New Hampshire; several nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Donald and Ralph, four sisters, Florence, Grace, Joyce and Beulah.
