BORTLE, Dolores J. – of Clio, age 89, died Friday, March 15, 2019 at Maple Woods Manor in Clio. Funeral services will be held 2PM, Saturday, March 23, 2019 at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Rev. Cathi Huvaere officiating. Private burial in West Vienna Cemetery. Family will receive visitors at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home on Friday from 2PM until 8PM and on Saturday from 1PM until the time of service at 2PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice or Bethany United Methodist Church.
Dolores was born November 10, 1929 in Clio, Michigan to the late Shirley and Margaret (Cornell) Shonts. She graduated from Clio High School in 1947. Dolores married Donald Bortle on May 22, 1948. She retired from Genesee Intermediate School District as a Teacher Aid. Dolores attended Bethany United Methodist Church in Clio. She was a member of the Coachman’s Travel Club. In her earlier years, Dolores enjoyed taking care of her home and children. She loved family parties and socializing with friends. After retirement, Dolores and Donald enjoyed traveling in their motorhome.
Surviving are: Husband, Donald Bortle; Children: Ricky Bortle, David (Diane) Bortle, Brenda (Jim) Andrews, and Lynette (Ron) Magnus; Grandchildren: Kami Bodnar, Tara Altenritter, Katina Bortle-Jackson, Bryce (Courtney) Bortle, Nicholas (Michelle) Magnus, Andrew (Jennifer) Magnus, and Allison Magnus; Step grandchildren: Daniel Thorpe and Dana Humphreys; Brothers: Doug (Mona) Shonts and Tom (Jeanese) Shonts; Sister, Sue June; Sisters-in-law: Evelyn Rowland, Donna Hull, and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Lindsay Bortle-Rogers. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the staff at Heartland Hospice, Maple Woods Manor and Gross Assisted Living for their compassionate care of Dolores.
