MARONEY, Alice May (Austin). - of Clio, age 97, died Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at McLaren of Flint. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30AM on Monday, October 6, 2014 at Saints Charles and Helena Catholic Church in Clio. Rev. Fr. Robert McGraw officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. Friends may call at the O’Guinn Family Funeral home in Clio on Saturday from 1-5 PM and Sunday from 2-7 PM, where a prayer service will be held at 5 PM. Alice will lie in state at the church on Monday from 9:30 AM until the time of service at 10:30 AM. Contributions may be made to SS Charles and Helena Catholic Church or the charity of one’s choice.
Alice was born on August 7, 1917 in Detroit, Michigan and was the second daughter of the late Thomas G. and Elizabeth (Boadway) Austin. After graduation from Clio High School, she attended cosmetology school and has been licensed since 1938. During WWII she worked at a manufacturing plant in Fenton while waiting for her future husband, Joseph M. Maroney to return from England. After Joseph returned from England in 1945 they were married in Flint, MI on July 5, 1945. On July 5, 1995 they celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. A year later on January 1, 1996 Joe passed away. Alice enjoyed, crocheting, quilting, sewing and traveling. She volunteered with many community organizations, especially her 70 years with Girl Scouts and was a member of Saints Charles and Helena Catholic Church. Alice was awarded the Thanks Award, Thanks II Award and the Saint Anne Medal.
Surviving are: daughters, Delia (Martin) Glaser, Rita (Richard) Neumann, Helen (David) Hamacher, Louise (Eugene) Taljonick; grandsons, Richard Neuman, Patrick and Brian Hamacher; step grandchildren, Cam, Brad, Shawn, Curt and Janel; 7 step great grandchildren.
