Fred A. Fischer passed away on June 9th, 2020 at the age of 83. Immediate cremation has taken place and there will not be a service per Mr. Fischer's request. Fred was born in Flint, Michigan on September 8th, 1936 and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1955. He was employed by King Cigar from 1955 - 1968. During that time, he served in the United States Army from 1959 - 1962. In 1968, Fred gained employment at Dupont Paint where he remained until his retirement in 1995. Fred married Mary Lou Flood on June 27th, 1964. Together, through thick and thin, they raised 3 children. Fred was a loving and devoted family man who enjoyed vacationing each summer in Tawas and Harrisville with his wife and kids. Often times those vacations included his parents and sister along with friends of his children. Nothing meant more to Fred than his family and their happiness. Fred had an affinity for Cash Word "scratch-off" tickets He was also an avid Detroit Tigers fan and rarely missed watching a game. Known for his quick wit, he enjoyed shooting the breeze with those he was closest to as well as teasing the staff at his favorite restaurants and neighborhood stores including Khouri's Market, Mac's Market and the former Olympic Grille. His circle was small and his heart was big. Fred was preceded in death by the love of his life, Mary Lou, on March 15th, 2007 and never quite recovered from the tremendous loss. Also preceding him in death were parents, Fred and Alexia Fischer and son, Loren Sheltraw. Surviving are daughter Vicki Richards (Phoenix, AZ) and son Jim Fischer (Marianne - Grand Haven, MI). Grandchildren Sheena (Brian) Donaldson, Cheyenne Sheltraw and Lexi Fischer. Great-grandchildren Avery, Rylee and Kennedy. Sister and brother-in-law, Kim and Kevin Shipman. Special nephew, Christopher Shipman. Dear friend Claudia Parks along with caring neighbors Patrick & Serene Alcorn and their children. Brother-in law John Flood (Kathy) and sister-in-law Linda Salter (Mark). Many nieces and nephews.Fred was loved by many and will be deeply missed. His children wish to thank the compassionate staff of The Medical Team Hospice who made it possible for their father to pass peacefully at home surrounded by love and admiration.
He never looked for praises
He was never one to boast
He just went on quietly working
For those he loved the most
His dreams were seldom spoken
His wants were very few
And most of the time his worries
went unspoken too
He was there.... a firm foundation
Through all our storms of life
A sturdy hand to hold
In times of stress and strife
A true friend we could turn to
When times were good or bad
One of our greatest blessings,
The man that we called Dad.
