Burchfield, Darla of Flushing, age 73, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Select Specialty Hospital-Flint. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2013 at Rossell Funeral Home. Cremation will follow funeral services. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the McLaren Cancer Institute.
Darla was born in Flint, Michigan on November 24, 1939, the daughter of Ernest and Ida (Boismier) Wilson. She married Norris Burchfield on June 20, 1959. He preceded her in death on October 5, 2000, after 41 years of marriage. Along with her husband, Darla cared for over 44 foster babies and continued to share her love with numerous foster children and day care children. She also worked in the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1998 after 15 years. Darla loved crocheting and making gifts for people. She also enjoyed spending her time traveling and reading. She was a generous and caring mother and grandmother who loved being with her family.
Darla is survived by her children, Jim and wife Iryna Burchfield of Flushing, Kristi and husband Gregory Wilson of Flushing; grandchildren, Alex, Max, Jacob; loving brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Sue Wilson; nephew, Tim Wilson; niece, Cindy Hanson; dear friend, Kathy Fargo; and her beloved cat, Sassy.
