Johnson, Mr. Unree age-74 passed away Wednesday March 23, 2011 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 1pm Monday March 28, 2011 from the Evangelistic Temple Church 1819 Welch Blvd. Dist. Eld. Joe Robinson officiating interment Flint Memorial Park G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Family and friends will assemble at the church 12noon for visitation. Mr. Johnson now reposes in the chapel of the Serenity Funeral Chapel and may be viewed until 8pm.
Mr. Unree Johnson was born March 11, 1937 to Cleophas and Sadie (Baldwin) Johnson in Catherine, Alabama. “Bay-Child” as he was known by his family completed high school and moved to Flint, MI where he started a career with General Motors Flint V-8 Engine plant (UAW Local 659). He received his Journeyman’s card as a Machinist and retired in 1993. Unree was a proud veteran who served in the armed forces for several years in the U.S. Army.
Unree loved to travel, go fishing and golf, but his main passion was bowling. One of his proudest achievements was being inducted into the Flint Bowling Hall of Fame in 2004. He was active in teaching youth bowlers the love of the game and golfing in local league with his friends after retiring. Unree was an active member of the Flint chapter’s NAACP and Urban League where he served on the Executive Board. His last years was filled with traveling with family and friend. In his quiet time he was a student of the bible completing several bible courses. But nothing was more importing to him than spending time with his family.
He leaves to cherish daughters, Caryl Carradine of Flint, Dessie (Jeff) Sudberry of Clio and son Unree Johnson of Benton Harbor, MI, four grandchildren Dessie (Mario) Dixon, John (Diana) Carradine Jr., Allison and Kamara Sudberry. 9 great-grandchildren, brothers : Eddie (Lorraine) Johnson of Flint, MI, James(Francis) Johnson of Shelby Twp., MI, Jonah ( Bessie ) of Detroit, MI and sister Mary Williams of Knightdale, North Carolina. Along with a host of brothers and sister-in-laws as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephew, cousins and special friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Bertha (Anthony) Johnson, and parents Cleophas and Sadie Johnson.
