STOPKA, John F. Jr. - Of Columbiaville, MI, formerly of Linden, age 80, died Thursday, February 1, 2018 at home, with family.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11am Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at St. Francis Xavier Church, 212 Center, Otisville, MI 48463, Father Carl Simon
officiating.
Burial in Flint Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Rehabilitation Center, 2091 Professional Drive, Flint, MI 48532.
Visitation 12-8pm Monday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. A Rosary will be prayed 7pm Monday evening at the funeral home. Visitation 10am Tuesday at church until the time of the Mass.
John was born in Bay City, Michigan on December 19, 1937, the son of John and Elizabeth (Drzyzga) Stopka. On September 7, 1957, he married JoAnn Folaron at St. Pius X Church in Flint. John retired from Hurley Medical Center. He raised and trained registered English Setters. He raised a Grand Champion English Setter, “Skylight Doctor”, which made the Hall of Fame in 1965. John had a band where he played accordion, guitar and piano and performed on live radio. John was a member of Knights of Columbus 4th Degree and a member of St. Francis Xavier Church.
Surviving are children, David (Lisa), Danette (Greg) Bancroft, Donna (Jack) Hedrick and Daniel (Elizabeth);
grandchildren, Sarah, Stephanie (Mychal), Catherine, Jestin, Jessica (Conner), Nicole (Dan), Kayla and Carson;
great-grandchildren, Ivan, Sawyer, Wyatt, Waylon, Avery, and Ellie;
sisters, Jean and Roberta;
brother, Robert;
and sister-in-law, Rita Promenchenkel.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, JoAnn J. Stopka, sisters Judy, Elaine and Mary Ann, and brother Jimmy.
