SCOTT, Richard E. – of Clio, age 71, died Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday, September 16, 2013 at Bethany United Methodist Church, 353 E. Vienna in Clio. Dr. John D. Bailey and Rev. Roger Gedcke officiating. Burial to follow in West Vienna Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Post #158. Friends may call at the O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio on Saturday from 1-9 PM and on Sunday from 10 AM until 9 PM. A Masonic Memorial service will be held Saturday at 7PM by the Vienna Lodge #205 F & AM. He will lie in state the church on Monday from 10 AM until time of services at 11 AM. Contributions may be made to The Wounded Warrior Fund.

Dick was born in Flint on August 20, 1942 to the late Clayton and Edna (McHugh) Scott and had resided in Clio his entire life. He was a 1960 graduate of Clio High School and earned a Bachelor's Degree from Spring Arbor College. He married Dorene Griswold on June 4, 1983. Dick had served 6 years in the Army National Guard. He worked at GM's Fisher Body -Coldwater for 27 years in labor relations and Delphi in Saginaw for 5 years also in labor relations. Mr. Scott was a Genesee County Sheriff's Deputy for 7 years and served on Vienna Township from 1988 till present. He also farmed his entire life. Mr. Scott was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Vienna Lodge #205 F & AM, American Legion Post #158 and the Michigan Townships Association. Dick also served on several local boards including: Parks and Recreation, Clio Regional Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals and the Clio Amphitheater Board. He was also instrumental in securing the Sheriff's Department contract for Vienna Township and was honored as a Genesee County Sheriffs Liason.

Surviving are: wife, Dorene; 5 children, Timothy (Monica) Scott of Kingsley, Theresa (Burwell) Mckall of Hersey, Jeaninne Bellanger (Rod Kosnik) of Clio, Curtis (Shiela) Bellanger of Lapeer, Shannon Khirfan (Samuel Vyse) of IN; 20 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sister, Donna (Robert) Sanborn of Clio; several nieces; nephews and friends. A brother, Clayton Scott, also preceded him in death (Marylee Scott of Fresno California). The family would like to extend a special thanks to brothers and sisters in law Fred and Barbara Griswold as well as Corrina Cutcher for all their love and support over the last few months and Hospice of Michigan for all of their care and support.
