Mother Georgia Mae (Lakes) Barbee was born February 14, 1925 in Flint Michigan, the daughter of Isaiah Lakes and Carrie (Wright) Lakes. She attended Flint Community Schools. Mother Barbee met and married Herbert Barbee, Sr. in July 1948 and to this great union 5 children was born. In 1949, she accepted the Lord at New Covenant Church Of God In Christ under the leadership of Pastor Felix Early, where she served in many auxiliaries faithfully. Mother Barbee relocated to Baldwin Michigan in 1982 were she served under Elder Aaron Mays and Elder Kerwin Hudson at New Life Church Of God In Christ She was appointed Church Mother where she served until the Lord called her home.. Also, she was a charter member and Church Mother of New Covenant Christian Church where her son, Dr. Arnold E. Lakes, Sr. is the Pastor. The church gave her the name as “Mother on Wheels.” Because, of her service to the saints young and old taking them where ever they needed to go. It was an honor for the church to give her a service “Queen Esther Court”. On February 14, 2016, she celebrated her 91st birthday at Willowbrook Manor. Many came out to celebrate with her and it was a joyous occasion. Her favorite scripture was Psalms 121. Her favorite saying was “If the Lord say so.” Mother Barbee loved the Lord and will be truly missed. She loved to sew and mentor young adults, collected all sorts of porcelain dolls, which she called her babies and was a wonderful cook. We must add that Mother was young at heart and was a jazzy dresser from her hats to her shoes.
Mother Georgia M. Barbee leaves to cherish her life and legacy: 4 sons, Dr. Arnold (Dr. Angelete) Lakes,Sr., Herbert Barbee, Dennis Barbee, Sr. and Quinton (Teresa) Barbee; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Ward and June Barbee; brother-in-law, Will Edwards, all of Flint; 20 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and many special friends.
Mother Barbee was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Barbee, Sr.; daughter, Joyce Pollard; son, Jerry Lakes; parents, Isaiah and Carrie Lakes; sister, Rosalee Edwards and brother Jessie Lakes.
The family will like to send a special thank you to Dr. Sattar and Willowbrook Manor, Nurse Karen in Baldwin MI, Caregiver, Teresa Guy, Heartland Case Manager Leslie D.,RN. Mother Barbee was so well loves that there are too many special friends to name, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!

| BARBEE, Mrs. Georgia Mae - Age 91, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Willowbrook Manor. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2016 at St. James Church of God in Christ, 2229 W. Carpenter Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Elder Kurwin Hudson, Officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, G-5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. Barbee will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 1 p.m. - 8 p.m. Friday |
