Agnes E. Bangert, MSW, of Flushing, Michigan, age 95, died Tuesday, December 17, 2019. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday, December 20, 2019 at St. Robert Bellarmine Church at 310 N. Cherry St. Flushing. Burial will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. At Rossell Funeral Home visitation will take place Thursday, December 19 from 5-8p.m. and 10 a.m. Friday at the church until the time of the Mass. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. Robert Guardian Angel Fund.
Mrs. Bangert was born on Long Island, New York City on December 6, 1924, daughter of Alfred and Agnes (Glynn) Clifton. She married John Bangert in New York City on April 28, 1945. He preceded her in death on July 23, 1991. Mrs. Bangert graduated from Flint Central High School. She attended Mott College, the University of Michigan-Flint, and Rutgers University in New Jersey. She received her Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She worked at Flint Insight, Inc. and started an inpatient alcoholism treatment program in the Flint hospitals. In addition, she helped to start a 28 day alcoholism program at Colombiere in Clarkston and was an administrator at Holy Gardens in Holly, Michigan 28 day alcoholism treatment canter. She was on the “Bishop’s Council” for initiating treatment programs, and former chairperson on the Flushing Board of Education, Human Awareness Committee, member of the National Christians of Social Workers and member of the University of Michigan Alumni Association. Mrs. Bangert was a proud member of A.A. for over 40 years, helping others to recover and become happy, productive citizens and serving others without expecting anything in return.
Survivors are son, John (Mary) Bangert; daughters, Joyce (Fred) cook, Mary (Ward) Walstrom, Joan (Bill) Jackson, Maureen (Robert) Krason; 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. |
