Steelman, Jimmy (Tommy) – Of Columbiaville, formerly of Burton age 72, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2025, likely still holding out hope that the Lions would win the Super Bowl in his lifetime.
Born in Salisbury, NC, on May 6, 1952, Jimmy made his way to Flint at the age of 10, where he was lovingly raised by his cousins Matina and Wes Snider. He married the love of his life, Deborah, on December 18, 1971, and together they built a family full of love, laughter, and just the right amount of mischief.
For 35 years, Jimmy worked at General Motors Truck and Bus, retiring in 2006. But his real job, the one he was most passionate about, was being the best husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, his family could ask for. His greatest joy was spending time with his loved ones, especially if it involved fishing, being near the water, or soaking up the Florida sunshine in the winter. He was a loyal fan of the Detroit Tigers and Lions, proving he had an unshakable sense of hope. And if there was a good casino nearby, you could bet Jimmy would be there, enjoying the game just as much as he enjoyed life.
Jimmy is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Deborah Steelman; his cherished children, Jeremy (Alyssa) Steelman, Jodi (Tom) Ternan, and Jenny (Robert) Krawiec; his adoring grandchildren Kyle (Annette) White, Aaron (Andrea) White; and great-grandchildren Nola, Amelia, Callan, Alayne, and Ethan. He also leaves behind in-law grandchildren Liam Vanvooren, Devan (Megan) Ternan, Hunter (Laynea) Ternan, Alex Ternan, Alyssa (Trevor) Yoemans, Kayley Ternan, and Jason Ternan; Sister Linda McCora; Brother-In-Law Bud (Kathy) Root. Special cousins; Wes (Dar) Snider, Kim Snider, Kristi (Heath) Miller, Brandon (Tina) Snider. As well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who were like family.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Arja and staff, Dr. Modawi, Fresenius Dialysis Davison staff, and Lapeer County EMS for their compassionate care.
Though Jimmy’s chair may now be empty, his stories, his craziness, and his unwavering love will live on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know him.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his mother, Alphie Steelman; Wes and Matina Snider; his brothers, Jack and Mack Steelman; and his daughter-in-law, Kristie Steelman.
