BUTZ, John W. – of Burton, age 84, passed away July 20, 2017 at Heartland Health Care Center – Briarwood. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 6336 Roberta St., Burton; Rev. Fr. Robert C. Bacik celebrant. Entombment will be in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 12-3 & 5-8 PM Monday at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the Mass on Tuesday at the church. A Memorial Service, under the auspices of Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council #11532 and Fourth Degree Assembly #0523 of Davison will be held at 6 PM Monday. A Rosary will be prayed at 7 PM Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
John was born in Flint, MI on January 6, 1933, son of the late Joseph and Grace (Griffith) Butz. He married Jackalene Horn on September 27, 1952. John was a founding member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He volunteered for many charity organizations and helping those in need. John loved golfing and woodworking. He retired from Dover Elevator.
John is survived by his wife, Jackie; children, George (Martha) Butz, Tamera (Mike) Thorpe and Pam Butz; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Sue (Dale) Dewer; many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by daughter, Daphne Butz, granddaughter, Dania Sietz, sister, Patricia Dusenbery; brothers, Frank Butz and Joseph Butz, Jr. The family would like to give a special thank you to the Briarwood staff.
