SMITH, Atty. William D. " Bill" Sr. - Age 68, passed away Thursday, August 15, 2019 at his residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Friday, August 23, 2019 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 424 Kennelworth Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Pastor Jevon Catlett, officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Friday. Atty. Smith will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed 2:00 PM - 8:00 PM Thursday.
Attorney William "Bill" D. Smith, Sr. was born September 14, 1950, a prominent lawyer and active community member passed away peacefully on August 15, 2019. “Bill” was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and devoted friend. He graduated with distinction from Thomas M. Cooley Law School “Class of 1984” and received The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship. Subsequently “Bill” started his private practice where he focused on personal injury, employment, civil rights and estate planning. Prior to returning to private practice, he was General Counsel for Hurley Medical Center for almost 30 years and Executive Vice President and General Counsel for over 15 years. Bill was an avid golfer and loved football. He leaves to cherish his memory: 3 children, Alicia (Tranell) Smith, William D. (Teshia) Smith Jr., and Mary Smith; granddaughter, Amaia Smith; brother, Thomas E. (Sandra) Smith; sister, Dr. Angela Reeves; nephews, Samuel (Kinetra) Reeves, Thomas A. Smith; nieces, Rachel (Sco) Reeves Thelamaque, Sydney Smith; and 3 great-nephews, Samuel, Luke and Noah Reeves.
Atty. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas D. Smith and Mary (Ervin) Holland.
