Richards, Edith “Elizabeth” of Flushing, age 96, died Monday, November 4, 2013, at McLaren-Flint. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday, November 7, 2013, at St. Robert Catholic Church. Fr. Paul Schwermer will officiate. Burial will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Rossell Funeral Home and 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass, Thursday at the church. A Rosary will be prayed 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Boy Scout Troop #117.
Edith was born in Lake Leelanau, Michigan on March 14, 1917, the daughter of William and Emma (Gauthier) VerSnyder. She married Elmer Joseph Richards on February 6, 1937 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Flint. He preceded her in death on December 30, 1983. Elizabeth was a member at St. Robert Catholic Church and was a life member of the CCW. She was also a member of Buick Local 559, where she enjoyed playing cards. Elizabeth was a committee member of Boy Scout Troop #117 for over 50 years. She also enjoyed helping others at Fostrian Manor and visiting friends at various nursing homes.
Elizabeth is survived by her children, Emma Marie and husband Dale Jenkins, Doris and husband Thomas Bishop, Virginia Smith, Mary and husband Richard Jewett, James and wife Nancy Richards; 16 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Rose Mary Richards; son, William E. Richards; and grandson, Steven Jewett.
