Bigelow, Rita N. of Flushing, age 94 (16 if you had asked her), died Friday, May 17, 2013, at her home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Flushing United Methodist Church. Rev. Jeff Jaggers will officiate. Burial will follow at Flushing Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Monday at Rossell Funeral Home and 10 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the church. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Friends of the Flushing Area Library or Flushing United Methodist Church.
Rita was born in Lansing, Michigan on April 18, 1919, the daughter of Herman and Florence (Patterson) Ives. She married M.C. “Doc” Bigelow on March 18, 1944, at People’s Church in East Lansing. They settled in Flushing and worked together as Town
and Country Veterinary Hospital for 49 years. He preceded her in death on April 15, 1999. Rita was a long time member of Flushing United Methodist Church. She belonged to several bridge clubs and was a member of Friends of the Flushing Area Library and Flushing Book Club. Rita enjoyed golf, bowling, knitting, crocheting and reading. She was an avid supporter of Michigan State University.
Rita is survived by her children, Kathleen D. Tarrant of Mt. Pleasant, Richard R. and wife Cheryl Bigelow of Flushing, Terry M. Bigelow of Flushing; daughter-in-law, Norma Bigelow of Grand Ledge; grandchildren, Lisa, Lori (Kevin), Debi (Brad), Tracy, Will (Christy), Cori (Adam), Katie, Christie; 11 great-grandchildren; Sparty, the dog.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Michael L. Bigelow.
She will always be “Our Beautiful Mother.”
