James Robert "Bob" Thomas of Flushing, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 5, 2019 after a long difficult struggle with cancer and CHF. He was a loving husband, father, stepfather, and grandfather.
The son of the late James and Essie (Robertson) Thomas, Bob graduated from Flint Technical Institute and attended Mott Community College. He was a Mechanical Engineer and Millwright for Local 1102 out of Detroit and later worked in Real Estate. He was united in marriage to Joyce Willing Berlin on November 26, 1985.
Bob was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in New Lothrop for many years and recently of St. Robert Catholic Church in Flushing. He was a man of profound Christian faith and an active and devoted member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2943. Bob was known among his many friends and family for his generosity. He was a hunter and fisherman, an avid sports fan, and he enjoyed their place in northern Michigan.
Mr. Thomas is survived by loving wife, Joyce; daughters, Traci (Sheldon) Slicker of Traverse City and Lori Thomas of Houston, TX: step-children, Robert Berlin of Flushing, Darrin Berlin of Los Angeles, CA, Christopher Berlin of Swartz Creek, and Melanie Berlin (Shane) Scott of Austin, TX; granddaughter, Alice Leigh Scott of Austin, TX; sisters, Nina (James) Shavernough of Tawas and Geraldine Moore of Texas; many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Campbell.
Fr. Anthony Brooks will celebrate Bob’s Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Friday, October 18, 2019 at St. Robert Catholic Church, 310 N. Cherry Street, Flushing. Visitation will be one hour prior to Mass at the church.
Charitable donations may be made in memory of Bob to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the wishes of the family. You may light a memorial candle or share a condolence at misiukfuneralhome.com.
