HENRY, Thomas P., of Grand Blanc, age 90, died Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at his residence. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 17, 2012 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 East Bristol Road in Burton, Father Gary L. McInnis officiating. Cremation has taken place. Those desiring may make contributions to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Visitation 1-5 p.m. Sunday at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the church.
Mr. Henry was born in Saginaw, Michigan on July 8, 1922 and was a resident of the Grand Blanc area most of his life. He married Norma Thomas on May 21, 1949. He was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. He and Norma volunteered with the St. Joseph Guild and the North End Soup Kitchen for many years. He also volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital for several years. He was an avid woodworker, dabbled in sketching caricatures of famous people, enjoyed the theater and most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. Mr. Henry was a U.S. Army/Air Force veteran, having served during World War II. He graduated from GMI in 1949 and was employed as a supervisor by General Motors.
Surviving are his wife, Norma;
son, Scott and wife Dena of Flint;
daughter, Lisa and husband Steve Whitehead of Grand Blanc;
4 grandchildren, Melissa Henry of Bloomington, Indiana, Megan Henry of Flint, Whitney and Ross Whitehead of Grand Blanc;
2 brothers, Charles and wife Dorothy Henry of Florida, Bryan Henry of Grand Blanc;
several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Katherine(Thorpe)Henry;sister, Mary Jo Effinger.
