HAYES, Bennie W. – of Burton, age 89, passed away Friday, February 8, 2013 at Pines of Burton Memory Unit. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Monday, February 11, 2013 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison; Chaplain Jim Olah from Hospice Advantage officiating. Burial, with Military Honors under the auspices of Davison American Legion Post #267, will follow in Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 PM Saturday and 1-7 PM Sunday. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Genesee Veterans Memorial Park.

Bennie was born in Flint, MI on October 29, 1923, son of the late William A. and Vivian (Harris) Hayes. He married Judy Hoffman on June 24, 1943 in Joplin, MO. Bennie proudly served his country during WWII. He was with the U.S. Air Force as a nose gunner in a B-24. After a crash in Germany, Bennie became a P.O.W. along with the rest of the crew from the aircraft. Presently there is only one other survivor left from that crew, T.C. (Ann) Gibbs. They remained friends throughout the years. Bennie worked for AC Sparkplug for 31 years, retiring in 1974. Bennie enjoyed flea markets, collecting antiques, going to garage sales and hunting for many years. He loved baseball, especially the Detroit Tigers and his fantasy baseball team.

Bennie is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Kathy (Ken) Sutton-Harshman, Vicky (Dr. William) Moon and Ronald Hayes; grandchildren, Randy (Kathleen), Rodney and Rachelle Sutton, Jason (Amy), Ryan (Mandy) and Zachary (Jill) Moon, Benjamin and Kasey Hayes; great-grandchildren, Randall, Andrew and Dan (Stephanie) Sutton, Amanda, Joshua, and Jacob Crawley, Tyler Stephenson, Delaney, Logan and Gabriel Moon, Klaira and Lydia Perkins and Easton Hayes; great-great-grandchildren, Landon Crawley, Ethan and Jack Sutton and Les James Harper – who was born February 8, 2013; siblings, William (Gerry) Hayes, Janet (Myron) Shelton and Joyce (Burt) Hopkins; sister-in-law, Arlene Hayes; brother-in-law, Nicholas (Jean) Hoffman; many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Hayes. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Pines Memory Care-Burton.
