MATTESON, Donald G. – of Clio, age 69, passed away peaceful on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at his shop, Mt. Morris Auto Collision, doing what he loved. Funeral services will be held at 1PM Monday, October 22, 2018 at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Pastor Joey Henry officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Sunday from 12PM until 8PM and on Monday from 11AM until the time of service at 1PM.
Don was born January 24, 1949 in Flint, Michigan to the late Robert Grant and Verna Hetzer. He was raised by his mother, Verna and step father, Richard Matteson. Don married the love of his life, Virginia Walt on June 3, 1967. He affectionately called her “Dandelion” and together they enjoyed 51 years of marriage. Don owned and operated Mt. Morris Auto Collision for 28 years. He attended Vertical Life Church in Clio and was a member of the Auto City Eagles – Aerie #3485 of Mt. Morris. Don enjoyed auto body work, bowling, NASCAR and watching his son race. Above all, Don loved spending time with his family and had crazy generosity.
Surviving are: Wife, Virginia “Hank” Matteson; Daughters: Donna Matteson (Terry Wells), Debbie (Ronald) Shamel, Betty (Mark) Trombly; Son, Donny Matteson Jr., (Amanda Huff); Grandchildren: Tasha, Tera, Timmy, Terionna, Danny, Joey, Amber, Lauren, Marky, Maddy, and Mackenzie; 18 great grandchildren, and 2 on the way; Siblings: Robert “Putts” (Pat) Matteson, Betty “Sis” Bowen (Joe Hopkins), Randy (Nancy) Matteson, Rainee (Rick) Bozung; Many special nieces and nephews, 2 that were like sons: Mike and Joe Bowen; Mother in law, Eileen Walt; Brothers in law: Jim Walt, John (Letu) Walt, and John Taylor; Sister in law, Kathy (Rob) Kunkle; Loving furry companions: Buddy, Snickers, and Billy the cat. Don was also preceded in death by his Brother, Rick (Diane) Matteson; Sister, Marie Taylor; Nephew, Richard Bozung, and father in law, Eldon Walt.
