Edwards, Martha Lee - Age 81, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, at her home on October 22, 2019 surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held 12PM Friday, October 25 at The River of Burton Church 2350 Hemphill Rd. Burton. Visitation will be held 1-8PM Thursday, October 24 at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center 6063 Fenton Rd. Flint and also from 11AM until the time of service Friday at the church. Those desiring may make contributions to The Flint Lions Club or Flint Association Of The Blind. Martha was born August 11, 1938 in Michigan City, Indiana, the daughter of Minnie and Charles Payne. Martha met the love of her life, Bannie in 1957. After a few short months they married and began their 55 year love story. Martha and Bannie were very active in their church Great Lakes Baptist, where Martha was a Sunday school teacher for 50 years. When Martha wasn't teaching kids in her class, she enjoyed sewing, painting, cooking, reading, singing, and listening to her music. To cherish her memories Martha leaves behind her 3 children and their spouses: Brian and Terry Edwards, Ramona Bowman, Stephen and Stefanie Edwards; 16 grandchildren and their spouses; 21 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild; she also leaves behind 2 sisters: Debbie (Tom) Archer, and Virginia (Tom) Matusik; faithful friend: Beth Godbee. Martha was preceded in death by her husband: Bannie; her mother; father; and brother: Charles (Bud) Payne. The family takes comfort in knowing Martha is in Heaven, where she longed to go to be with her Heavenly Father and Bannie. A very special thank you to her daughter-in-law Terry for taking such good care of Martha. You have been her angel on earth.
