RUHSTORFER, Lawrence “Larry” William - age 84, of Fenton, passed away peacefully at home, Friday, September 15, 2017. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 W. Silver Lake Rd., Fenton. Interment will be in Floral Gardens Cemetery, Bay City. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Monday at the funeral home; and 10 AM until the time of service on Tuesday. Those desiring may make contributions to the Children's Leukemia Foundation of Michigan. Larry was born December 9, 1932 in Bay City, the son of Byron and Martha (Wetters) Ruhstorfer. He was a graduate of T.L. Handy High School in Bay City and attended Bay City Junior College and Michigan State University. Larry married Tove Skibsted on August 30, 1952 in Bay City, they just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Cold War. Larry owned and operated Kirby Co. of Flint for 45 years. He was a member of the Fenton United Methodist Church. As a life-time charter member of the National World War II Memorial, Larry registered over 720 veterans on the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C. Larry was a member of the American Legion, past-president of Genesee County Leukemia Foundation, past-treasurer of the Genesee County Republican Party, Charter member of the Fenton Township Service Club, life-time member of the Downtown Optimist Club, Fenton Lake Sportsman’s Club, Hunters’ Ridge Hunting Club in Oxford. He was the longest member (54 years) of the Birch Creek Club and served the longest tenure as President of the Club. He was a life-time member of the NRA, life-time member of the Republican Party, life-time member of the VFW. He founded and ran the Kirby Outreach Program for nine years, was a member of SME (Sales & Marketing Executives supporting youth). Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, water and snow skiing and he especially loved spending time with his family. Surviving are: wife, Tove Ruhstorfer of Fenton; daughter, Terri (Kenneth) Burt of Fenton; son, Lawrence Ruhstorfer II and Debra McClintock of Caseville; grandson, Nikolas (Helaina) Burt of Lake Orion; granddaughter, Kendall (Benjamin) Fladung of Marquette; great-granddaughters, Kaylee and Lilyana. He was preceded in death by: his parents; son, Randy; three brothers, Harold, Robert, and William; and sister, Eleanor.
