DRUDI, John Lewis - Of Grand Blanc, age 84, died Sunday, March 8, 2020 at Hurley Medical Center.
Funeral service will be held 1pm Wednesday March 11, 2020 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint,
Father Steve Anderson officiating.
Burial in Flint Memorial Park.
Those desiring may make contributions to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.
Visitation 11am Wednesday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
John was born in Flint on July 23, 1935 the son of John and Bessie Drudi. He married Darlene Dufort on April 30, 1955.He graduated from Baker Business College where he majored in Accounting and Flint Sacred Heart where he played football and basketball. He played basketball all his life including pickup ball at the YMCA until he was 80. John turned down several college basketball scholarships in order to get married at the age of 19. He played in the Flint City class A & AA Basketball leagues for many years where he lead the league in scoring twice. He served on the Board of Directors of the Flint YMCA, was involved in many charitable organizations, was in the Hall of Honors at Oakland University for his work with civic and community interests and was listed in Who's Who of the Midwest. Mr. Drudi was a business developer having owned Sunshine Food Stores, Southmoor Golf Course, Eastown Bakeries and Party Time Ice. He also owned the Blimpie Subs franchise in the Flint area and several businesses in the Detroit area, including Red Lion Restaurant, Quik Pik Food Stores, Southmoor Sports Mall, Party Time Ice and Mrs. D’s Commissary. He earned his Black belt in Karate in 1977 at the age of 42.
Surviving are wife, Darlene;
7 Children, John and wife Bonnie of Traverse City, James of Florida, Joe and wife Denise of Gaylord, Jeff of Traverse City, Jerry and wife Tiffany of Grand Blanc, Jason of Grand Blanc and Renae and husband Mark Miller of Burton;
13 Grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren;
And many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
