LAPAK, Andrew J. “Andy” – of Birch Run, age 89, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at Bavarian Comfort Care Assisted Living in Bridgeport.
Andrew was born November 19, 1927 in Gagetown to the late Joseph and Agnes (Raca) Lapak. He attended St. Agatha Catholic School in Gagetown through the 8th grade. Andrew served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952. Upon his return from the military he began working at AC Spark Plug in Flint, where he met his future wife, Sally. He retired after thirty years seniority and was a member of UAW Local #651.
Andrew married Sally Lou Williams on June 2, 1956. They made their home in Flint until moving to Birch Run in 1973. Their home was a gathering place for friends, neighbors, and family. Sally preceded him in death on February 3, 2014.
Andrew was a member of Saints Francis and Clare Parish in Birch Run. His faith was very important to him. He had several hobbies over the years, including: hunting, woodworking, and solving puzzles. His talents and generosity were showcased through his gardening, cooking and baking. He grew a large garden for many years and took great pleasure in sharing the fruits of his labor with others to enjoy. The same was true with his cooking and baking, feeding others made him happy. Andrew was always up for the challenge of baking an apple pie, no matter the hour of the day. Last but certainly not least, he was especially proud of the cabin he built in Lake City and enjoyed spending time there with his family.
Andrew is survived by his children: Cheryl (Marc) Smith, David (Ann) Lapak, Luanne (Mark) Narva, and Randall (Tracey) Lapak; Eight grandchildren: Ryan (LeeAnn) Smith, Kelsey Smith, Andrew, Sonja, and Larissa Lapak, Matthew Narva, Cody and Brandy Lapak; One great-grandchild, Ayden Smith; Sisters-in-law, Carol Williams, and Gloria Williams; Several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Sally, Andrew was also preceded in death by his siblings: John, Margaret, Mary, Pauline, Agnes, Frances, Joseph, Bernard, Richard, and Alfred, as well as their spouses.
Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, August 11, 2017 at Saints Francis and Clare Parish - 12157 Church St., in Birch Run. Rev. Fr. Thomas McNamara officiating. Burial in Birch Run Township Cemetery. Family will receive visitors at the church on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to Saints Francis and Clare Parish.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff of Bavarian Comfort Care for the care they have provided over the past three years.
