MATEJCEK, Jack D. – Of Flint, age 82, died on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at Hurley Medical Center.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, October 20, 2014 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Emeritus Berniece A. Matejcek, David and Donna Matejcek co-officiating.
Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery with a military graveside service under the auspices of the Marine Corps League Flint Detachment #155 Honor Guard.
Visitation 1-8 p.m. Sunday and 11 a.m. Monday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Jack was born in Flint, MI on October 13, 1932, son of the late John and Gladys (Lathrop) Matejcek and was a resident of Flint all of his life.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.
He was a member of the Burton Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 1814 and VFW Post #822.
Jack was an avid University of Michigan and Red Wings fan. He was very passionate about his lawn and beautiful flower beds and won many beautification awards. Jack and his late daughter, Patricia shared a love of Elvis Presley.
Mr. Matejcek was employed by Fisher Body No. 1 for 32 years, retiring in 1986.
After retirement from General Motors, Jack continued to assist his longtime friends, the Bruce Hardy family, owners of Shermans Lounge in Flint.
Surviving are daughter, Marena and Jeff Stadler of Fenton;
seven grandchildren, Cierra (Robert) Wakeley, David Lunn, Jonathan, Joshua and Jeremy Smith, Timothy Plummer, Jr. and Jesse Rockwood;
seven great-grandchildren;
brothers, James and wife Sara, Donald and George;
sisters, Lorraine Harmeier, Dorothy Matejcek, Susan and husband Ralph Oglesby;
brother-in-law, Richard Soles;
many nieces and nephews, with special gratitude to “The Kid”.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Patricia Plummer and Rebecca Rockwood; sister, Sandra Soles and former wife, JoAnn DeMott.
