Ziegler, Robert L. of Flushing, age 88, died Saturday, August 30, 2014, at American House-North surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, September 4, 2014, at the First Baptist Church of Flushing, 5105 N. McKinley Road, Flushing. Pastor Gary MacMannamy and Pastor Ken Sharp are officiating. Burial will follow at Ziegler Cemetery, Albee Twp. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Rossell Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. Thursday at the church until time of the service. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or First Baptist Church of Flushing.
Robert was born in Albee Twp., Michigan on October 26, 1925, the son of William and Mary Alyce (Tinkler) Ziegler. He married Lois G. Willoughby in Chesaning on December 30, 1950. He graduated from Chesaning High School in the Class of 1944 and received his Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree from Michigan State University.
Mr. Ziegler was an instructor with the Flint Community Public Schools. After his retirement, he traveled with his wife and they enjoyed spending winters in Arizona. He was a WWII Navy Veteran and honorably discharged with the rank of Quartermaster. He was an avid deer and turkey hunter and a member of the Mattis Hunt Club. He enjoyed gardening and sports. Robert was a member of the First Baptist Church of Flushing and studied the Bible. He loved his music, was a member of the New Verizon Band, and played in the Kitchen Band at the Burton Senior Center. He was a member and board member of the Flushing Senior Center.
Robert is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lois; two daughters, Luanne (Rick) Knoth of Lake Orion, Deborah S. Grandas of Flushing; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Joyce Larner of Greendale, WI; nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Duane Ziegler; and brother-in-law, James Larner. |
