Chris O Rauh, 89, a lifetime resident of Lapeer, died Jan 8, 2014, Lapeer MI. He was born March 2, 1924, in Lapeer, to Chris J. and Lovina (Smith) Rauh. He graduated from Lapeer High School, Class of 1941. He married Isabel Houghtaling, of Lapeer, on March 5,1943.
As a young man, he was active in 4-H, and known for his work raising and shearing sheep. He was a dairy and beef farmer, served on the Mayfield Board of Review and as Mayfield Township Supervisor for 18 years. Chris also served as Road Commissioner, as an Ambulance Board Member, and on the Construction Code Authority Board. Chris was born, raised and eventually passed away on the farm he loved, where he enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles with family.
Chris is survived by his wife of 70 years, Isabel Rauh of Lapeer; children: Doug (Vicki) Rauh of Washington State, Kathy (Rodney) Bracy of Middleville, MI and Lyle Rauh of Lapeer; daughters-in-law, Ann Rauh of West Virginia and Pat Rauh of Sturgis, MI; eight grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Chris is also survived by sisters, Ellen Docherty of Lapeer and Merle Hubbell of Mt. Morris; and his sister-in-law, Norma (Art) Salisbury of Lansing. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sons, Ed and Dale.
Visitation for Mr. Rauh will be 4-8PM Saturday January 11, 2014 and 1-2PM Sunday January 12, 2014 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home Lapeer. Mr. Rauh’s funeral will be 2:00PM Sunday January 12, 2014 at Muir’s. Rev. Ed Chandler will officiate the service. A memorial headstone will be located in Stiles Cemetery.
