Kenneth Gene “Skip” Biggs, age 80, of Montrose, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2020, at Montrose United Methodist Church. Pastor Hal Phillips will officiate. Burial will follow at Montrose Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at Montrose United Methodist Church and Wednesday from 10 a.m. at the church until the time of the service at 11 a.m. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Montrose United Methodist Church.
Skip was born in Rensselaer, Indiana on June 21, 1940, the son of William and Charlotte (Fisher) Biggs. The family moved to Montrose in 1945. Skip graduated from Montrose High School, Class of 1958. Following graduation, he was hired into Chevrolet Flint Manufacturing. In September of 1960, he married Patricia Leach, a marriage that spanned 59 years.
In November 1958 he was hired into Chevrolet Flint Manufacturing. He retired from GM Truck and Bus in 1991 as a Journeyman Refrigeration Repair Technician. He also worked at Yellow Freight System as Head Diesel Mechanic from 1968 to 1972. Skip owned and operated Montrose Auto Electric from 1973 to 1985. From 199I to 2012, he successfully opened and operated Digital Security. He was very well versed in many trades. A very good framer, carpenter, mechanic, electrician and plumber. Basically, Skip could fix anything! He loved his family and enjoyed being a husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family and sharing his knowledge. A special thanks to his first grandchild and good buddy, Mitch for helping him get out of many “scrapes”.
He is survived by wife Patricia; son, Kenneth “Buzz” Biggs and significant other, Lisa Battalgia; daughter, Kimberly and husband David Westfall; grandchildren, Mitchell Biggs and fiancee Janel Caughlin, Ashley and husband Brandan Atwell and Wade Kenneth Westfall and significant other Kelly Schultz; great-granddaughters, Leighton and Whitney Atwell; sister, Dianne (David) VanNorwick and many nieces and nephews. Skip was preceded in death by his parents, William and Charlotte Biggs and brothers, David and Billy Biggs.
