WINTERS, Zachary Boyd Winters, 57, of Flushing, MI passed away Tuesday, April 28th of 2024.
Zach was born on July 29, 1966 to Donna Joyce Perkinson and Leon Earl Winters in Columbus, Indiana. After graduating from Columbus North High School, he went on to study Automotive Technology at Vincennes and Indiana State Universities, beginning an apprenticeship and 35 years of employment for General Motors.
In 1988, Zach married Colleen Rae Rafferty - forming friendships as they traveled from Michigan to Texas, New York to Maryland. They had two children - Jordan Thomas Winters and Emily Grace Brumfield.
Zach spent his evenings volunteering with Reach of Washington County’s homeless cold weather shelter. He spent his weekends fixing things and dispensing wisdom to family, neighbors and close friends from Rehoboth United Methodist. He spent his summers organizing mission trips with the Appalachia Service Project - teaching youth and uplifting local communities with his skills and kindness.
In December of 2003, Zach married Jayne McEwen Winters - after many years in Maryland, they traveled on to new friendships in New York and back to Michigan - together they had one son - Charles Joseph Winters, and Jayne brought her children Jeremy Scott McEwen and Jackie McEwen Whelan into the family.
In 2023, Zach retired from his long-standing service with General Motors, but he never took a break from his service to friends, family, and his community. Using his time to help, in ways large and small, anyone in need. Zach spent his final years camping with his grandchildren, working on cars, and building a warm and loving home in Flushing with his wife and son.
Zach was predeceased by his father, Leon Earl Winters.
Zach is survived by his wife Jayne McEwen Winters of Flushing, MI; his mother Donna Joyce Winters; his children Jeremy Scott McEwen, Jackie McEwen Whelan and Chris P Whelan, Jordan Thomas Winters and Amber Janet Elaine Westley, Emily Grace Brumfield and Dennis Wayne Brumfield, and Charles Joseph Winters; his grandchildren Hailey Davis McEwen, Collin J Whelan, Bishop P Henry, Jayne Patricia Henry, Elizabeth Margaret McEwen, Savannah Rae Brumfield, and Autumn Diane Brumfield; his siblings Barry Jason Winters and Amber Luanne Winters, Randy Lee Winters and Angela Geralyn Winters, many nieces and nephews; and more friends than we could possibly list.
Services will be held at Swartz Funeral Home, 1224 West Hill Road, with visitation from 12pm on Saturday, May 4, 2024. Pastor Angel L. Garcia will lead a Celebration of Life beginning at 2pm.
