HOWELL, Irving J. - Of Flint, age 101, died Sunday, October 12, 2014
at his residence.
Visitation 1-8pm Wednesday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. A Scripture Service will be held at 7Pm Wednesday evening followed by a Knights of Columbus Service and a Rosary by the Franciscans.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11am Thursday, October 16, 2014
at St. Mary Queen of Angels Church, 4413 South Morrish Road, Swartz Creek, Mr. Howell will be at the church from 10am Thursday until the time of the Mass. Father Louis Ekka officiating.
Burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors.
Irving was born in Laconia, New Hampshire on December 25, 1912, the son of the late Jay and Arlie (Mason) Howell. On July 3, 1941, he married Margaret Schmidt at St. Matthews Catholic Church. He was a devoted catholic who was active in many area parishes over the years. He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of Legion of Mary, Knights of Columbus 3rd and 4th Degree, 3rd Order of Franciscans, American Legion, the Blue Army and was active in Genesee County Catholic Prison Ministry for 30 years. Irving owned and operated Reliance Dental Laboratory for 51 years in downtown Flint.
Surviving are brothers, Charles, Robert and Kenneth;
and sister, Mary Louise Ferris;
many nieces, nephews, special friends, Judy & Don Cox and Jim & Christine Goergen and a host of other friends.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Margaret, Rita, Rose and Maryanne.
