Norman Witte
Age 87 of Owosso passed away Friday, April 26, 2024 at The Meadows of Owosso.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 Tuesday, April 30 at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Deb Grazier officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Home on April 29th from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
Norm was born January 25, 1937 to Julius and Gertrude (Karau) Witte in Muskegon.
He graduated from Muskegon High School, class of 1955. Norm married his high school sweetheart Patricia Colton on July 23, 1955. They moved to Owosso in 1956 and he started apprenticeship at Flint Manufacturing and attended GMI. He retired in June 1992 as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer after 36 years of service from Flint Tool and Die.
Norm enjoyed traveling, golf and woodworking. He was a charter member of Redeemer Lutheran Church where he was Building Chairman in 1986 leading the addition of the educational unit. Many pieces of his woodworking can be seen throughout the church. He also served as a Sunday School Teacher and Chairman of the Men's Club. He and his wife Pat, Pastor Jim and Sherry Helman started the Elephant Ear Booth at Curwood Days. Norm and Pat squaredanced for 29 years and traveled the country to conventions and one year was also part of the entertainment on a cruise ship. They loved spending time at their vacation home at Lake Isabella and also traveled the country and vacationed in Hawaii and Baha Mexico in the winter. Norm loved to garden with Michelle while woodworking and hunting with the boys. He was always building something. He loved to play cribbage with his family or anyone who would play with him. Norm greatest joy was his family.
Left to cherish Norm's memory are his wife Pat of 68 years; sons Norman (Kathleen) Witte Jr. of Lake Orion and Kevin (Amy) Witte of Elsie; daughter Michelle (Glenn) Ross of Washington, MI; 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Julius and Gertrude (Karau) Witte, and his 11 siblings; Earnest, Edna, Edwin, Emily, Albert, Gertrude, Julius, Sam, Mary, Arnold and Delores.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Redeemer Lutheran Church, Memorial Healthcare Hospice or Respite.
