Bernard “Bernie” Hinds, 75, passed away at his home in Mancelona on Sunday, October 3, 2010. He was born on January 26, 1935 in Kalkaska to the late William C. and Sadie (Newlin) Hinds.
Bernie served his country in the US Navy. He retired from M.D.O.T. in 1987 after 30 years of service. Bernie was also a former Chief of Police for Roscommon County. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and making fishing tackle. Bernie was a member of the Kalkaska Church of Christ.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 11 years, Mary; his loving children, John (Linda) Hinds of Nevarri, FL, Daniel (Patricia) Hinds of Traverse City, Diane (Steven) Nevi of Traverse City, Debra (Mike) Jackson, of San Clemente, CA, DeAnna Plut of Traverse City, Cheryl McFarland of Traverse City, and Alison (Ben) Ringwalski of Traverse City; his dear step-children, Justin Mehlberg of Mancelona, Jasmine Mehlberg of Mancelona, Aubrey Mehlberg of Mancelona, and Brittany Mehlberg of Great Lakes, IL; and 22 cherished grandchildren.
Bernie was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. Wolfe-O’Neill Funeral Home with Dan Johnson of the Kalkaska Church of Christ officiating. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the service.
Memorials may be given to Munson Hospice, 210 Beaumont Place, Traverse City, MI 49684.
