Jim was born in Fisk, MO on January 5, 1929, son of the late James and Manda (Wells) Simpson, Sr. After the death of his first wife of 26 years, Ella Mae (Watts) Simpson, he married Donna Monroe on March 10, 1979 and she preceded him in death on June 24, 2019. Jim proudly served in the U.S. Navy from June 16, 1946, until his retirement on March 1, 1967, dedicating over two decades to his country. After retiring from military service, he continued to serve his community through a 17-year career with the Davison U.S. Postal Service. Jim was an active member of the Davison Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 4087, where he held the esteemed roles of Post Commander and Clubroom Manager, contributing many years of leadership and service. He was also a past member of the Davison Eagles. Beyond his professional life, Jim had a deep love for the outdoors, spending his earlier years hunting and fishing. He was an avid reader with a curious mind, always seeking knowledge. Gardening brought him joy as well, and he took great pride in cultivating his green space. Jim’s passion for storytelling, especially his infamous Navy tales, will long be remembered. He also cherished working with kids through the VFW, always eager to mentor and guide the next generation. Jim’s warmth, kindness, and dedication to his family, community, and country left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
