HARTMANN, Horst John – Of Grand Blanc, age 83, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Genesys Regional Medical Center.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013 at
St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 9020 South Saginaw Road, Grand Blanc, The Reverend George L. Cleaves, Jr. officiating.
Visitation 12 noon Saturday until the time of the service at the church.
Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Columbarium of the Church.
Surviving are beloved wife, Shirley Ann;
daughters, Janice (Randal) Williford of Benbrook, TX,
Judy (David) Simon of Grand Blanc;
grandchildren, Stephen Williford,
Ethan and Charlotte Simon;
cousins, nieces, nephews and many beloved friends, especially from Marriage Encounter and his Church.
Horst was born in Hamburg, Germany on August 13, 1929.
He became a journeyman tool-and-die maker after high school graduation. In 1952 he and his parents immigrated to Wisconsin, and spent a year working on their sponsor’s farm.
Later they moved to Milwaukee, where Horst worked as a tool-and-die maker while studying Electrical Engineering at Marquette University, graduating in 1961.
Horst married Shirley in 1958 and was transferred to Michigan in 1972.
Horst worked for Cutler Hammer, Inc. later part of Eaton Corp, as systems engineer/application engineer and later Q.A. manager. The job took him to Hawaii, Argentina, Australia and many parts of the U.S.
Horst retired from Eaton in 1986 and was later employed by Baker College, Flint, as technical instructor. Horst enjoyed stamp collecting, square dancing, photography and travel; his ready wit endeared him to all; and he will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilhelm and Hanna Hartmann.
