Mary Alice Hensley was born a triplet on November 18, 1926 in Paragould, Arkansas. She came into this world with family around her and throughout her whole life, she was never alone. She was blessed to have her granddaughter, Jenelle, and her first great-grandson, Dylan, living with her as her constant caregivers during the last few years of her life. She will be sorely missed. Polly was married to the love of her life for over 52 years. She will now join Hoyt in heaven connecting two links of the family chain. She was a woman filled with generosity and honesty to a fault. Her boundless energy was admired by all. She was the lady who would wake early to bake apple cakes to be delivered to strangers…mail carriers, doctors, neighbors, bank tellers, and sales clerks. She doted on her 13 grandchildren and loved each and every one of her 12 great-grandchildren. She left memories of rummage sales, 1940’s music, feeding the full, but most of all laughing. Her laugh was contagious. Polly enjoyed working at AC Spark Plug after joining the workforce during WWII as a Rosie the Riveter. She was a devoted Christian, proud Democrat and a strong advocate for the Mentally Ill. She lived in Flint and Swartz Creek most of her life, Florida for a few years after retirement, but always considered Arkansas home.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Dalmas Hoyt Scobey, her dear twin brother Bo, parents William Jesse and Mabel Clyde Hensley, and eight other siblings.
She leaves her body, but remains in the hearts of her children Michael Scobey (Jan) of Swartz Creek, Timothy Scobey, Patti Emelander (Bob) of Grand Rapids, and Judy Haggadone (Clay) of Clio. She had a special place in her heart for each of her children, especially Tim who battles schizophrenia. She made lasting memories with her grandchildren: Ryan Scobey, Jeremy DeLauter (Becky), Kimberly Conway-Crawford, Tad Scobey, Chad DeLauter (Val), Kyla Rowe (John), Michael Conway (Liz), Jenelle Purdy, Amanda Purdy, Hannah Ireland, Jessie Teerman (Steve), Matt Emelander (Becca), and Kyle Haggadone. These precious great-grandchildren brought her joy: Dylan, Riley, Mackenzie, Arianna, Evelyn, Noah, Saiydee, Zoe, Beau, Bradley, Quintin, and Everett. She will be sadly missed by special friends Kathleen Griggery and Geraldine Smith and numerous nieces and nephews. Donations, in memory of Polly, can be made to the National Alliance of the Mentally Ill (NAMI), Hospice of Michigan or a charity of your choice.
