Johnson, Agnes (House) – of Montrose, age 90, went home to be with her Lord, her son, Ed, her daughter, Joannie, and her husband Elmer on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at the O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose. Pastor Tim Hobson and Don O'Guinn officiating. Burial to follow in Montrose Township Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Tuesday from 3-9 PM and Wednesday from 9 AM until the time of the service at 10:30 AM.
Agnes was born October 11, 1926, in Cheraw, South Carolina to the late Jabe and Lena (Malloy) Huggins. She graduated from Beecher High School and had resided in Montrose since 1958. Agnes was retired from Fisher Body – Coldwater with 34 years of service. Agnes was a strong community activist and was involved in numerous organizations in Montrose. She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter # 351, the Montrose Lions Club, Montrose Senior Center, Montrose Chamber of Commerce and the Montrose Blueberry Festival. Agnes was also an 18-year member of the Montrose City Council and was honored as Citizen of the Month. She was a former Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader and was a longtime sponsor and advocate for "special needs" students. She was also honored as Citizen of the Year by the Gleaners Community Food Bank and by WEYI TV 25 as "Mother of the Year." Agnes was also a longtime member and volunteer of the Easter Seals of Michigan and was chairman of the Lions Club Bingo. She was also an avid Detroit Tigers fan.
Surviving are: 3 children: Nancy Obershaw, Cary (Dana) House, and Sadie (Larry) Leonard – all of Montrose; 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Please sign our guestbook or share an online condolence with the family at www.oguinnfh.com.
