HROMEK-LUNKAS, Cheryl M. – of Otisville, age 50, passed away December 27, 2012 at McLaren Flint. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, January 7, 2013 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 2415 Bagley Street, Flint, MI; Rev. Fr. Thomas Firestone celebrant. Cheryl’s family will welcome visitors at the church for one hour prior to the Mass. Inurnment will be in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Genesee County.
Cheryl was born in Flint on February 15, 1962, the daughter of James C. and Loretta (Malovey) Hromek. She graduated Carmen-Ainsworth High School and went on to receive her Bachelors in Business from the University of Michigan-Flint. Cheryl Hromek married Michael Lunkas on December 28, 1989 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church of Flint. She began her working career in the Project Control Department at Buick. Cheryl continued her employment with the auto industry at GM Powertrain in Pontiac. Her service with GM encompassed 25 years. Cheryl was a member of the GM Business Women’s Club. She was a Unit Leader with Avon for over 10 years and established a close working friendship with Donna (Mike) Sunday. Cheryl was a faithful member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church. She was a devoted caregiver of her parents in their aging years.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, Michael; mother, Loretta Hromek; brother, Mark (Elaine Beck) Kerry, nieces, Amanda (Russ) Spreeman and Rochelle Kerry; mother-in-law, Virginia Lunkas; sisters-in-law, Diane Lane and Debra Fader; special friends, Barbara and Phillip Freebold; beloved pets, Gizmo and Rocky. Cheryl will also be remembered by many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, James C. Hromek and father-in-law, Stanley J. Lunkas.
