STOGSDILL, Hubert L., Jr. – Of Flint, age 84.
Hubert's sunrise was July 18, 1930 and his sunset was on October 8, 2014.
Funeral service will be 11am Monday, October 13, 2014 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, Leslie Toldo officiating.
Visitation 12noon-6pm Sunday and 10am Monday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Hubert was born in Cabool, Missouri, the first son of Hubert L. and Caroline (Gutch) Stogsdill. He resided there until entering the United States Navy where he became a Control Tower Operator. Upon his discharge he came to Flint where he was employed for 35 years by Chevrolet Manufacturing Motor Division, as a General Foreman in the Rods Department. After retiring in 1984, he worked another 15 years as a consultamnt for Cast Metal Industries.
He married Gaylia E. Kenslow of Lanton, Missouri on July 3, 1950 at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Flint, Michigan.
Hubert was an active giver to the community. He was active in outreach through the Chevrolet Men's Club, The Knights of Columbus and The Big Brothers Organization. In addition he spent many Christmas Eves traveling the roads of Genesee County, spreading holiday cheeer as Santa Claus.
Hubert had many interests and hobbies throughout his life including hunting, lapidary, auctions and antiques (even becoming an auctioneer at one point), gardening, reading and sports.
Hubert could travel nowhere in the world without meeting someone that he knew and everyone was his friend. But his greatest joy was his family.
He is survived by his wife Gaylia;
daughter Kirstie (Roy) Richard of Burton;
two granddaughters, Amy (Nate) Cottrill and Becky Sanders;
three great-granddaughters, Caitlin and Alayna Cottrill and Kendall Sanders, all of Davison;
two brothers, Dean (Virginia) Stogsdill, Leon (Jacqueline) Stogsdill;
three sisters, Shirley (Dean) Larson, Rosanna Ream and Fonda Jean Carroll;
one sister-in-law, Mary Lou Stogsdill, all of Missouri;
and many nieces and nephews.
Hubert was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Darwin Stogsdill.
