Edwin Gerald Barrett, beloved Husband, Father & Grandfather passed away peacefully on May 31, 2024, at the age of 88. A pillar of strength and a beacon of love, his absence leaves a void in our hearts.
Edwin was born on March 5, 1936, in Flint, Michigan to his parents Lawrence and Mary Alice Barrett. He graduated from Flint Central High School and then graduated with an accounting degree from Mott Community College.
Ed is survived by his wife of 66 years, Madeline Jean (Mulliner) Barrett; Sister Janet (David deceased) Clink; Daughter Cynthia (Kenneth) Kowalyk; Son Matthew (Kristina) Barrett; Son Mark (Donna) Barrett. Edwin is also survived by 3 grandchildren and 4 step-grandchildren Lindsay (Patricio “Tito”) Olgine; Johnathan Barrett; Alexandra Barrett (Ryan Mock-Fiancé); Shannin (Tony) Gillman; Leisa (Steven) Dettloff; Diana Gaulin and Joseph (Amanda) Gaulin as well as 8 great-grandchildren Cade, Cason, Breece, Ella, Hudson, Daniel, Henley and Brooklyn.
One of Ed’s true callings was his Faith and Religious upbringing, which brought him to the love of music and as a valued choir member and featured soloist at many churches over his life. He is best remembered for his song to his bride during their wedding ceremony and for singing at the wedding of his son and daughter in law Matt & Kris. He passed his talent on to his grandson Johnathan and the two sang a duet of the Lord’s Prayer, resulting in not a dry eye in church that day.
Ed worked for over 30 years at State Farm Insurance as a Claim Superintendent and led many seminars in Arson Investigation to the Michigan State Police. After retiring from State Farm, Ed was involved in Resort Real-estate development.
Ed enjoyed listening to his music, golfing and playing board games with family and friends. His favorite pastime was family gatherings, and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
To commemorate his remarkable life and memories a funeral service will be held at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth 590 N. Franklin Street, Frankenmuth, MI 48734 on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Linda Howard will officiate. Burial to follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery, 4413 Flushing Road, Flint, MI. Ed’s family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Friday, June 7, 2024 between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
