Zang, Charles R. “Bulldozer Charlie” of Flushing, age 86, died Monday, March 21, 2016, at Medilodge in Montrose. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2016, at New Lothrop Church of the Nazarene. Pastor Paul Brashaw will officiate. Private burial will be at Sterling Cemetery in Sterling, Michigan. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Rossell Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Friday at the church until the time of the service. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice.
Charles was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on May 12, 1929, the son of George and Lillian (Solomon) Zang. He married Martha Fill on November 13, 1948, in Standish, Michigan. Charlie had worked at Kraft in Pinconning for several years before moving to Flushing where he owned and operated Custom Bulldozing for over 40 years, earning the nickname “Bulldozer Charlie.” He enjoyed hunting, watching auto racing and playing the part of Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny for many years in Flushing. Charlie also restored classic cars. He will be remembered as a friend to everyone, always willing to go the extra mile to those in need and a man who loved his family.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 67 years, Martha; daughters, Elaine and husband Ray Rossell of Flushing, Pamela Thiel of New Lothrop and children, Sarah and husband Dave Wierenga of Australia, Kathryn and husband Dr. Nathaniel Krupp of North Carolina; son, Charles Jr. and wife Shauna Zang of Florida and children, Derek and Aleahya; sister, Catherine Rinke; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends, Tom and Annie Mark of Flushing. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
