SMITH, Roy J. – Of Grand Blanc, age 93, died Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Genesys Convalescent Center.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Reverend John H. Grantham officiating.
Burial in Crestwood Cemetery.
Visitation 1-3 and 5-8 p.m. Monday and 12 noon Tuesday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Roy was born in Parma, Missouri on April 22, 1921, son of the late John and Lucy Smith.
On September 7, 1950 he married Jean Groaning in Dexter, Missouri.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during the entire World War II. After he hit the beach he was in Normandy, North France and Rhineland. He earned three bronze battle stars, a good conduct medal and numerous others.
Mr. Smith retired from GM after 30 years of service.
Surviving are wife, Jean;
sisters-in-law, Erma and Sue Groaning;
extended family, Ron and Earlynn Frye and family; Rich and Jan Pilon.
He was preceded in death by sister, Viola Howard; brother and sister, that died at birth, Carl Smith and Bertha Mae Smith.
