AURAND (WOODS), Janet – Of Grand Blanc, age 87, died Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Brookdale Memory Care.
Memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2018 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Reverend Rodger Good officiating.
Cremation has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan.
Visitation 2 p.m. Thursday until the time of the service at 4 p.m at the funeral home.
Janet was born on April 2, 1931, the daughter of Oliver and Gladys (Green) Woods. She grew up in Flint and graduated in 1949 from Flint Central High School.
On October 17, 1952, she married Kenneth Aurand and they had 2 children.
Before children, Janet worked for Sears and later for General Motors in the office. As the children grew, she became involved as a Flint Library Storyteller, a Scout Den Mother, School Playground Supervisor and many other activities that involved her children.
When the children were in high school, Janet decided to go to college. With her education, she worked as a day care director, Head Start Teacher, part-time 4C trainer and the Associate for Child Development Food Program, where she visited family home day cares. During her retirement, Janet worked part-time as a Field Advisor for Mott College Child Development program.
Janet enjoyed outdoor activities, especially bike riding, walking and camping. She also enjoyed plays, concerts, reading and was a member of 2 book clubs.
She was a very involved member of Grand Blanc First Congregational UCC since 1960 and actively involved in church.
She leaves her beloved son, Greg;
daughter, Nancy Aurand-Humpf and husband Jim Humpf;
grandchildren, Matthew Aurand and Jessica Humpf;
sister, Julie Woods and husband Tom Schultz;
niece, Jillian Schultz;
many cousins and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, on June 29, 2017; daughter-in-law, Karen and parents.
