On June 7, 1959 he married Sofia Christopoulous and they had been happily married for 60 years.
He served in the Greek Army and fought against insurgents. George was Mayor of his village Katsarou. He co-owned and managed an olive oil business and owned his own grocery store in Greece.
He immigrated with his wife and two sons to Flint in 1968.
He sacrificed his family and business to set up a better future for his family in the U.S.
George worked for 22 years at the General Motors Fisher Body factory in Grand Blanc; and only missed two days of scheduled work during his entire career.
He was a loyal patron of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Grand Blanc
He had a strong work ethic, impeccable moral compass, values, and was selfless beyond belief.
He had a zest for life; loved to dance to Greek music and sing folk songs.
George was a master gardener and appreciated nature’s beauty.
He loved and cherished his family, especially his grandchildren, to the very end. He gave an inestimable gift to his children and grandchildren by taking the risk of crossing the Atlantic Ocean to give them the best chance of securing a better life.
This is what the American Dream was meant to be! The success and well-being of his family became the highest proof of his happiness and success.
The greatest legacy one can pass on to one’s children and grandchildren is not money or other material things accumulated in one’s life, but rather a legacy of character and faith.
