Mary Ann "Tookie" Sprague, age 81 of Durand, passed away on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Durand Chapel. Pastor John Walworth will be officiating with burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Vernon. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m.
Tookie was born on December 20, 1930 in Durand, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Janik) Curreli. She married Harold "Bill" Sprague in Durand on June 7, 1947 and together raised 6 children.
Mrs. Sprague was a member of the Durand Eagles Post 3851 and the Durand VFW Auxiliary Post 2272. She was most proud of graduating from Durand Area School in 1983 with her youngest daughter Connie (Sprague) Koan. She retired from the Durand Area Schools where she was a Special Education Aide and playground lady at Bertha Neal School. She loved her school children. She loved traveling, dancing, playing cards and games and spending time with her family, especially soup night.
She is survived by her 6 children: Linda Terpening of Durand, Bill (Barbara) Sprague of Greenville, SC, Mary (Don) Plumley of Columbia, AL, Kathy (Ric)Clements of Cadillac, Duane (Jan) Sprague of Durand, CJ (Eric) Koan of Flint; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; sister, Kathleen Dendinger of Florida; sister-in-law, Betty (Joe) Frost of Georgia and many nieces and nephews. Also, special friends in her life, Roger and Harvelene Elliott, special care givers: Laura Austin-Elliott, Chris Napier, Crystal Lawson, and Denise Yancy. Very special thanks to Dr. Paul Adams and staff at Genesys/Hurley Cancer Institute.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, in 1989; 3 brothers: John, Gerald and Joseph; 1 sister, Rhea Priest; son-in-law, Norm Terpening and both parents.
