SOWA, Raymond Edward – of Flint, MI, age 96, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2025. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5191 Richfield Road, Flint, MI 48506; Rev. Fr. Roy Horning celebrant. Interment, with Military Honors, immediately following the Mass in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 2-7 PM Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423 and 10-11 AM Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or Davison VFW Post #4087, in Ray’s memory.
Ray was born in Flint, MI on June 1, 1928, son of the late Andrew and Stefania (Czyczk) Sowa. On February 10, 1951, Ray was united in marriage to Joyce McWhirter. They shared a life full of love, laughter, and devotion until her passing on October 15, 2017. Ray proudly served in the United States Army from 1951-1952 during the Korean War, a time that shaped his sense of duty and commitment to his country. After returning home, Ray dedicated 46 years of his life to Buick Motor Division, retiring in 1990. A lifelong member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Ray was deeply committed to his faith. He also found community and camaraderie at the Davison VFW Post #4087. Ray enjoyed the simple joys of life, particularly boating, fishing trips, and traveling across the U.S. with Joyce, creating lasting memories along the way. He also found great fulfillment in visiting with people at nursing homes, hospitals, and their homes, offering comfort and companionship.
Ray is survived by 4 children, Raymond Sowa, John (Jackie) Sowa, Stephanie (Larry) Foust and Andrea McGlashen (Greg Nagy); daughter-in-law, Michelle Sowa; son-in-law, Mark McGlashen; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law, Judy McWhirter and Jean Ann Kent; dear friend and neighbor, Patsy Owens; many other loving nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Stefania Sowa; brother, Andrew Sowa; sister, Adella Baronowski; wife, Joyce Sowa; 2 daughters, Karen Davis and Marie Sowa.
