Died: 3/4/2017
Age: 67
Community: Flushing, MI

HAGENSEN, Linda Kay (Bellinger), 67. Forever the comedian, Linda died on the only date that tells us what to do next, March 4th, 2017. Linda was born July 31, 1949 in Flint as the daughter of Dorothy and Kenneth Bellinger. Linda graduated from the University of Michigan - Flint in 1972 as a teacher and continued her Master’s work at Central Michigan University. Linda taught in St. Croix until 1976 and continued to teach special education in MI until teachers were no longer needed. She then worked at AC/Delphi until shop workers were no longer needed. She always said she should have gone into crime and could have wiped out that need, too.

Life was not easy for Linda. She survived being fallen on as an infant, a car accident in her 20’s, the loss of several organs and her spine, two types of cancer, an incarcerated bowel, heart disease, and finally succumbed to lung disease. Throughout all of her struggles, Linda remained hilarious and more concerned with the well-being of others than of herself. She never met a stranger and was a mother, friend, and mentor to all in need of her heart and mind. Highly intelligent and curious, Linda was an impressive force to be near, opening your mind, blessing your heart, and leaving your soul laughing.

Linda volunteered for the Red Cross and United Way and was a member of the Third District Democratic Club, Flint Alliance for Peace, Progressive Caucus of the Democratic Party, Unitarian Universalist Church of Flint, and was a strong advocate for the reform of marijuana laws, peace, freedom, and justice.

Linda was preceded in death by her mother, father, aunts, uncles, and ex-husband, Weston Edward Hagensen. Surviving are daughters Melodee (Bob) Mabbitt and Jennifer (Aaron) Schwind; grandchildren Gavin Ashley Schwind, Elizabeth Carrie Ann Mabbitt, and Lilian Schwind; sisters Sandra (Kenneth) Walker, Diana (Donald) Morse, and Patricia (Randall) Hagensen; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; best friend, cousin, and travel buddy Carol Morgan; friend and caretaker, Bobbie Risely, who provided Linda the freedom to live at home as long as possible; and honorary children, David Allen Arnold and Carrie Ruth Ann Wolfe.

A remembrance will take place Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 4:20pm at the First Metaphysical Church, 8267 East Atherton Road in Davison. Rev. Michael Meakin officiating. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Forgive yourself. Forgive others. Be here now and just enjoy the ride, because that’s all it is.
