Born: 7/7/1970
Died: 9/12/2013
Age: 43
Community: Grand Blanc, MI

STORY, KATIE 43—Kathleen Burns Story of Grand Blanc, Michigan began her experience of glory, in the presence of her Lord and Savior, on September 12, 2013. Katie died at her home, surrounded by her family and friends, after a six-year battle with breast cancer. Throughout that fight, Katie’s faith grew and did not waiver, her spunk endured, and her leadership of her girls intensified. Her physical brokenness was an opportunity for her to love, lead and share her life out loud in a way that only she could.

How can hearts be so broken and at the same time celebrate? Katie was (and is) a follower and lover of Jesus Christ. While on this earth we may be called to share in the sufferings of Christ, those who call upon His name will share in his resurrection and glory, forever and ever, world without end. Though we grieve our indescribable loss, we rejoice that our Father turns mourning into dancing, and that Katie has not only been healed, but has been made brand new—and is undoubtedly dancing today.

We long to be reunited with her and experience the “joy unspeakable” she now has. The very best human experience is only a glimpse—a shadow—of what God has in store for His children.

Katie was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and was Membership Director at Genesys Athletic Club. Katie was a fashionista, a cheer mom, and general smarty-pants. She loved mothering her girls, being with her friends, and “blingy” clothes (and shoes). Katie was outspoken and compassionate, wise and light-hearted, full of vim and vigor. “Oh My-lanta”, what a girl...

Katie was Chuck’s devoted, loving and steadfast wife and sweetheart for almost 20 years. Katie was (and will always be) the adoring and strong mother to three awesome daughters: Madie, Mary Kate and Lizzy.

Katie is survived by: her father, Bo Burns, her mother, Dr. Sally Jo Mock, her mother and father in law, Charles and Brenda Story, a brother and sister in law, Bo and Makendra Burns, her sister and brother in law, Kimberly and Tim McLemore, and a step-brother, J.C. Burns, along with nephews, nieces, cousins and other family members.

The family has been overwhelmed by the love, generosity and outpouring from their family, friends, co-workers, neighbors and the community at large. Words are inadequate to express their gratitude. Special thanks to Tracy Lowes, who has redefined what it means to be a true friend, and to Brenda and Charles Story, who have faithfully, lovingly and unselfishly cared for Katie and her family.

To honor Katie, the family asks that you consider whether the promises of Jesus Christ are true. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Katie Story Educational Trust, P.O. Box 1990, Knoxville, Tennessee 37901.
